Hi Athlete and Parents!
I am an independent college athletic scout. I represent every college in the United States.
What do I do? I scout 17 sports for 45 high schools in North Idaho and Spokane vicinities (about 100 mile radius). I look for athletes that either have the ability or have the potential to play at the college level.
Once I find you, I then make sure college coaches know you exist.
I am your consultant, motivator, friend, and representative. I am your independent voice that is 100% focused on helping you get that scholarship. When I start working with you, I assist you in every step of the recruiting process. I am with your from the moment I take you on as an athlete until the day you sign your “national letter of intent.”
I will:
- encourage you to keep working towards your goal.
- evaluate you regularly.
- make sure you maintain 3.5 gpa or higher.
- make sure you get tutoring if necessary.
- make sure you get the coaching necessary to improve your skills.
- shoot your skills video.
- record game footage for you.
- contact coaches on your behalf, get them interested in looking at you.
- provide an unbiased independent scouting report
I AM NOT:
- Your babysitter. I cannot “make” you do what you need to do to stay competitive both academically and athletically.
The most important thing, help prepare you for getting a scholarship. I will be straight forward with you and tell you what needs to be done, not what you want to hear. Getting a college scholarship is very competitive. We all need to be on the same page to get that scholarship.
MY BACKGROUND:
Shawn grew up in the Seattle area. Moved to North Idaho in 1995 to settle down and raise a family. Shawn built his own home from the ground up without contractors, ok one contractor. He had insulators come in and insulate the house. They got it all done in one day! :) Shawn has been married for 20 years to his wife Lori (who met on a blind date), they enjoy watching their 4 kids grow.
Shawn developed an online media service in 2005 that was a complete marketing system for small businesses. It married the media to a unique marketing system that would allow small businesses to market themselves to their target audience as a trusted adviser. Shawn gained attention of investors and venture capitalists. In 2007 he decided to get investors involved. They were in the process of acquiring $1.5 million in venture capital when the financial collapse happened in Oct of that year. All venture capital and credit dried up overnight. Shawn took a break, kept his media network intact and continued developing websites and SEO marketing for clients. Part of his marketing strategy used “trickle marketing”.
Shawn and Lori started sports writing in 2006 when the Spokane Shock arena football team started. This was a phenomenal opportunity to interview players and coaches to get an inside look of professional, college and high school sports. Later on Shawn would cover the Spokane Chiefs, Spokane Indians, and other sporting events throughout the Inland Empire.
Shawn craved more. Covering these teams were awesome opportunities, but as Shawn interviewed players, he learned what mistakes and successes these players made and searched for a way to utilize this information to help others. Part of the problem was that these players slipped through the cracks at the high school level. Shawn turned his attention to the high school level of playing. Shawn found that many athletes were simply not getting the help they needed to make it to the next level.
Shawn has taken his years of marketing and sports writing experience and put it to work as an independent college athletic scout. Now I am working towards my agent certification. I will soon be able to assist with player contracts at the amateur and professional level.
